Lean Lego Training

Published by Jeff Hajek on

One of the best ways to teach your team about Lean is to give them hands on training using Lego sets. This gives them the opportunity to try out concepts without the risk of making errors in actual work areas.

We offer three different Lean Lego training packages, available in our online store.

Lean Lego Visual Controls and 5S

This is our most popular Lego training package. It comes with 4 models. 2 have written instructions, and 2 get the advantage of having pictures. The catch? Nobody knows there are different versions.

Team size of 2-3 people is recommended. Takes 15-20 minutes.

It provides a fun, light-hearted way to show the huge advantage that images give in instructions.

Mistake Proofing (Poka Yoke) Lean Lego Exercise

This unique Lego training challenges teams to come up with ways to make fixtures that prevent errors in producing a variety of similar parts.

4 models are provided. Team size of 2-3 people is recommended. Takes about 30 minutes.

Lean Lego Flow Simulation

One of the stalwarts of the Lean training community is the Lego flow exercise.

Our version provides detailed instructions, and enough models to get really backed up on inventory, making the benefits of one-piece flow apparent. The exercise starts with batches of 6, and works down to 3, then 1, then 1 with the stations located closer together. Finally, the teams are given a chance to do some kaizen activity to make further improvements.

You’ll need at least 7 people to run the exercise, and it can accommodate a handful more as ‘waste watchers.’

The simulation takes about 1 ½ to 2 hours, plus any training time that you want to include between simulations.
