Office Process Recording Sheet

Published by Jeff Hajek on

The Process Recording Sheet is primarily used to document steps in an office environment during a process walk. Because of the non-linear flow in an office, longer cycle times, computer processes that are hard to monitor, and the frequency with which office workers change tasks, a Time Observation Sheet is insufficient to fully document a process.

Lean Terms Discussion

The Process Recording Sheet documents cycle time for steps, WIP, walking distance, and asks the observer to make an estimate as to the value-added content in a step. While documenting short steps is preferred, to keep pace with the process, an observer is often unable to record in enough detail to capture all the waste. This value-added estimate highlights areas for potential improvement.
